Non medical chronic pain treatment and coaching.

I offer specialized coaching services for anyone suffering with chronic pain or chronic health conditions. These include ongoing medical issues, a back that periodically “goes out”, reoccurring migraines and headaches or GI issues.

 If you are getting or have had appropriate medical care, coaching is an incredible way to support your healing process.

Why do I offer this service?

For thirty years I suffered from unbearable headaches, migraines, and other pain issues. I spent years and so much money getting structural treatments, consulting medical specialists, studying the Alexander Technique, Yoga, and anything else I could do. All my efforts help me be fit and functional, but the pain persisted.

 When I started to seriously study the emerging world of mind-body pain treatment a whole new world opened up for me. I was shocked to realize how much of my pain was tied up in emotional issues and stress. Because I felt very mentally and emotionally well and had great therapy over the years, this came as a real surprise!

 I dove into all the books, courses, podcasts, and anything else I could get my hands on to unravel the mysteries. My pain issues had gotten so bad I felt despair at living with them for the rest of my life.

 It took years of study and practice and no one “path” or method worked for me. But I was able to put together a really great and effective program for myself. I drew from polyvagal theory, brain science, IFS, Somatic Experiencing, journaling practices, movement practices and trauma recovery processes. I am pleased to say that I am now mostly pain-free. It still feels like a miracle every day!

 My training as a Martha Beck Coach and an Internal Family Systems informed practitioner are the perfect complement to my knowledge and understanding of chronic pain and how to unravel it. It gives me the unshakable faith that inside you there is wisdom and clarity about exactly what you need for your own healing journey and great tools to work with to access that clarity and guidance.

What happens in a session?

Here is a list of some of the things you can expect in our time together:

·      Learn about the surprising ways you may be experiencing stress and emotional conflict inside yourself and what to do about it

·      How to talk to your brain and create a mental environment less likely to produce physical pain

·      How to use thinking and feeling to “reshape” your neuro-anatomy to reduce pain and promote healing

·      Promote resiliency and creativity to cope with difficult circumstances 

·      Simple exercises to calm the nervous system. This both starts the process of “turning down” the pain signals and brings online our bodies' natural abilities to repair and heal

·      How to befriend your body and your experience, even when it feels unbearable

·      How to stop fighting your pain

·      Learn how even when our pain is uncurable, we can slowly and gently dismantle some of our most painful thoughts and experience about our pain and so lessen our suffering

·      Strategize ways to support yourself when you are in flare-ups so you can lean into your own comfort when things get hard

·      Access your inner guidance so you can more easily find any help and support you may need in the medical or healing world

·      Process the difficult feelings of grief, shame, blame, anger we can have when our life has been negatively impacted by medical issues out of our control

·      Gently challenge some of the ways our pain may be shrinking our life and find ways to bring joy into our experience

·      For some people, if it feels right for them, we explore the meaning, purpose, and deep lessons pain can bring into our lives

·      Making space for the grief, despair anger, and disappointment when we can't get relief, need to have painful and debilitating medical care we don’t want to go through, or are dealing with the isolating limitations of disability and disease

·      Spiritual attitudes to lessen our suffering my practically learning how to embrace and accept our reality, even if it is painful

Pain is a complex issue. While I call my approach “non-medical treatment”, like any other practitioner I cannot guarantee that my approach is the right approach to lessen your particular pain issue.

 However, what I can promise with all my heart is that all the work we do together will contribute to your development as a human being. You are so much more than your pain or your health condition and that truth is embedded in all I do.

 I have been there. I know how hard it is. I have felt all the despair. And if you are suffering, you are my people and I want to help if I can.
